Post subject:  Once again to Cauvery

Hi Friends

Having not fished for a long long time (due to preoccupation), and my fishing instincts killing me, decided to head towards the cauvery a few days back along with three of my friends. It was a fine trip and a lot of fish were caught.

Caught many small fish. Have posted a few below for your viewing.

My tackle as usual........9' Silstar rod, Abu 7000 reel and 30 lb mono maxima line.

30 pounder caught by my friend.......

Thanks guys.
More than the fishing, the camping and the togetherness was fantastic.
The sounds of the night, calling of wild game, splashing of the crocks are still echoing.
The sweet sound of the ratchet rrrrrnnnnngggggg....... is so nice to hear.

Vijay,

It would be nice if you could do us the courtesy of an introduction, in the introduction section first. I am sure that will help you get better responses to your posts and queries. Especially when “angling sensitive” questions like locations are asked.

I am sure you are aware of this as you have been a registered member since 2010.

Thanks and Regards,

Bobby

Hi Rajesh, you can book through Jungle lodges and stay at their accommodation.
We went through WASI so camped out in the jungle.
Sorry for the delayed reply.

Dezz, I stayed there for 4 nights and caught fish every day. But the 2 decent sized ones were caught on the same day. I was bait fishing. Since the fish were taking bait decided to stick onto the bait and did not try lures.

Thanks for the reply, Ravi.

Can I just go to Muthathi or any place nearby and fish. Are there restrictions?

Are there restrictions on camping?

I understand that one will have to release Mahseer.

Ravi Sir, Great Catch. Had been admiring on those beauties,
do they take lures or dead bait?

Ezek

Author:  ravinp58 [ Thu Oct 11, 2012 1:07 pm ]
Post subject:

Thanks Ashok.

Ezek, please call me Ravi. Yes Mahseer take lures. I have caught then on lures. But the fish you see here in the pictures were caught with Ragi and Chilwa (small live carp). Since they were going mad after chilwa i did not switch onto any other bait.
How ever, catching them on lures is a thrilling experience. The power of a medium sized fish (about 5 to 10 kg) on a lure is something that cannot be explained and have to be personally experienced.

So sad that fishing has been stopped in this beatiful place.

I hope the fish dont pay the price of all this and that some day we can return to the Cauvery.

Yes Harvey, it is very sad.
We had planned to be there around mid Jan 2013, but it is so disappointing to think that we cannot make it.
I am sure without us around there, and no one to patrol that stretch of river, the poachers are going to finish off most of the fish and other fauna in that area.
Lets hope for the best.

Ravi is that any particular reason for the Government to ban fishing in this areas..

Vijay, the forest department says that this area is a wild life sanctuary and no fishing activity will be allowed in this area.

k..... Ravi i didn't understand this particular concept ,in which way do we harm or distrube the animal's habitain by fishing...

If a forest is consider as wild life sanctuary ,Goverment ban's fishing but it been consider as tourist spot by carring people in van and jeep's. such activity dosen't disturbe the animal's habitain??????

Hi Vijay & Ravi,

Yes the Government are least concerned about recreations and hobbies rather wanted to do research and exploring which actually spoils the land.

Ravi do you think and upper stream of the hoganekkal to be a place for some of these migrating species. Have visited there to taste those fresh fish fries and saw some good size katlas and roghu, so maybe can we have our fingers crossed for some suprise Mahaseer there.

Hi Ezec,
I have coracled from 10 kms above upto the hoganekal falls. Believe me, every 100 meters there is a net laid (that too across the river from bank to bank). Absolutely no fish activity. Not even a tadpole. All i got was bee stings.
I am sad to note this same might happen to galibore.
All that red masala fish fry you see are from the falls down to the dam (stanley dam).
