Hello all,

Just contemplating a houseboat trip in Kerala end of this year, never been there before so it is unknown waters for me.

Is there any fishing possible from the houseboat itself and/or from nearby ocean waters?

I shall be grateful for guidance from our members on the forum.

I have read reports about attendants in houseboat catching fresh fish and then serving it to the guests. So it should be possible for you to catch from the houseboat itself.

Thank you, Venkat.

Couple of things, what sort of fish are those caught by them? will lures work ?

Secondly, we intend to stay for a few days at Kovalam Beach (Kerala) .... what are the angling opportunities there ?

Many thanks,
Kingfish

It is more than a decade since I went to Kerala coast also I have never been in a houseboat.
Any one from Kerala in our forum should be able to help you better.

Kingfish, the water around these houseboats can be badly polluted. Please do not consume the catch from the houseboats it may be detrimental to health.

It is mostly fishing for Karimeen or Pearl Spot from the houseboats.

Thank you for the warning, Bops.

I had surmised the same risks after looking at the backwaters and its usage for daily hygiene by those inhabiting the locale.I will confine my angling to the ocean waters of Kerala.

Interesting to know of the type of fish caught in these inland waters.

Regards,
Kingfish
