My recent Angling trip to Barot. Barot is a picnic spot and tourist location in Mandi district in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. It is situated 40 km from Jogindernagar and 66 km from Mandi, the district headquarters. The road to Barot branches off at Jogindernagar-Mandi high ways and from Jogindernagar the distance is 40 km. It is sometimes possible to use the trolley from Jogindernagar which reduces the distance to 12 km. The route includes terraced fields and thick cedar forests, rising to Jhatingri at the hilltop. The remains of the summer palace of the former rulers of Mandi are located here.Through the little village of Tikkan, the road carries on to Barot. The town has a range of outdoor activities, including a trout breeding centre from where fish are released into the Uhl. A 30 km section of the river is used for angling.

Nice report and pics. I have corrected your image tags so that they show up inline. Try to use the hotlink for forums option on imageshack next time.

Thanks for sharing,

Barot and Thirthan have the best waters for trout fishing in Himachal. Tirthan is much famous destination then barot. Poaching and illegal fishing is very common in Tirthan valley. For a good size catch u need to travel into interiors of Tirthan such as Batadh Valley which would be very tiring. U will get small size catch very often.

Barot is a hidden destination and the area is smaller as compared to Tirthan. Chances of catching a big size fish is very great. 3 to 4 km further from barot a dam construction is going on. reach that dam site and start angling upwards till u reach the last village which is hardly 2km from dam site. There are very great chances of getting a big Fish. The time of the year I visited Barot, water was crystal clear and I could see big size Trout (1 to 2 kg )in the water but could not hook them tough i managed to hook 800 gm size. Poaching is very less this area a local people are not fond of fish.
