We have been fishing the Lakshadweep every year since 2007. This being our home waters there is a special affinity for this destination. However we missed out last year due to my younger sons bike accident. We spent the whole of last year doing a lot of fresh water fishing and light tackle salt water waiting for him to recover.
Finally we decided it was time and the leg was strong enough to tackle a GT.
This time around we wanted to check out some new islands further north from our usual spots. We landed at the Kadamat Island after a 6 hour boat ride over rough waters from Agatti (where the airport is).
When we reached Kadamat we learn that the place and other islands around it was being fished rather heavily by GT fisher men from France, Italy, Spain and Singapore. What a change from 6 years ago when we threw the first popper into these waters.
Well that’s how the dice rolls. This being the scene we found fishing very hard. Saw many fish coming up to the popper/ Stick bait and refusing a take.
After the trip, took a moment to reflect on the way we fish these days. We realized that the obsession to catch that One Big fish has killed the passion in us and blinded us. The camera seldom comes out to capture the beauty of the sea, colorful bycatch are just tossed overboard, and it was all about popping just for one fish.
At the end the Big fish remained aloof. One take which stripped about 50 meters at 12/13 Kg drag could have been that fish till the leader parted at the knot to the stick bait. Jeenu my younger son proved that his leg healed well with the best fish of the trip. One more destination on the GT list is attracting too much attention.

After the demise of Andman, lakshyadeep is THE Destination, specially for the Japs, and it is but obvious that with the more and more pressure, the fishing will decline.

Ali.

Hello Jeen & Co,

Lovely pictures and fish, just loved the Dorado pic.. what bright colours. :-)

Also it's good to see you and boys having fun, enjoying the lovely location and Jeenu back with his monsters. :D

I too heard from some friends about many guys from SE Asia and other parts of the world coming to these waters to take note of the amazing fishing it offers. I was planning to visit there with Javed and we spoke to some guys and got reference of an European guy who runs a charter there and seems he is fully booked till 2013.

But we have to look at it with more understanding of our own faults, yes our own country waters if I wish to crib. But then, don’t we need a Indian association or a strong angling body to take note of the interest of Angler in this country or better to monitor or protect our sport??

Recently I have come across on stories of Anglers selling fish who are very much part of this great forum, I don’t care on the visiting ones, they don’t have much to lose, how about our very own local anglers?

Thanks guys. Well yes Santosh we are to blame. Hard to believe but a fact that its easier for foreigners to get a permit to the islands than us to whom it belongs!
As for the charter forget the rest . I can put you on to the local fishermen who will arrange the boats for you.

cheers,

Jeen

im going to say something harsh here.. please name those anglers selling fish (who are on the forum) and then ban them.. this is a sport fishing forum ..not for commercial purposes after all.

Hold it guys, this topic is not to discuss selling of fish & please do not quote me in a wrong way to trash it further. Discussion I made was with reference to something else. Thank you.. :-)

Now let’s cut the of topic discussions.

Tight lines.. Santosh
