Had arranged a trip to TriBeni with some of my buddies (Dec. 2014) for some winter action.

Were targeting Katley (Acrossocheilus hexagonalepis), I guess they are also called Copper Mahseer but managed to catch five Chuchay Asala (Schizothoraichthys progatus). Caught and released every 1 of them.

hey!! Sry for the late post, was caught up with some other works. Anyway, here are some pics of the spot, the fish, the refuge and the gang.

I admit, the fun never really fades, no matter how many trips U make to the River. Twisted Evil

Nice spot there! looks very beautiful and peaceful to visit! I think I might have caught the same fish while I was in Tibet on the upper Brahmaputra..I need to check..

Do you guys expect to catch golden mahseer there too? It looks good water for them...

All the best Scott

Dear Scott,

Golden Mahseer is a rarity these days, because of overfishing and pollution... But there was two good sized Golden Mahseer caught by anglers from Kalimpong in a baited line this year (probably Oct, do not have any info. regarding other months)... Probably it weighed between 11-17lbs.

But if you really want to get a hand on the Gold, I suggest you visit Kali Jhora, which is not that far away from Tribeni. Probably another 45min to 1hrs drive downhill towards Siliguri.

Happy Fishing.

I feared that might be the reason for the lack of mahseer. Lets hope that the future will be brighter for them. I visited your area once before but unfortunately didn't fish while i was there. If I ever make it back i'll give you a shout :)

All the best, Scott
