I have just heard from the Forum Moderator @ IndianAngler that he is receiving pictures posted by me in an upside down format?

Could other forum members please advise if they have also had the same problem with my posts?

Thank you,
Kingfish

Hi King Fish,
I am also seeing some of your posted images Upside Down (new breed spinning reels - image of reel and box, salt away-container). May be some of your images has been rotated while posting. Can be checked by previewing them before final posting/submit.

Regards,
Arefin

Hello Arefin,

Thanks for your reply.

My previews, which I do several times before submission, have all images presented correctly. It seems that somehow the images in the "Cleaning Reels" and "New breed reels" posts are upside down .... but they have been posted in the same manner as all my other posts.

Could you kindly look up my other posts and tell me if the pictures inside them are also upside down?

I take a picture directly with my iPad, transfer it to my album and then transfer it to my post without any rotation.

Thank you,

Kingfish

I see your images in the snapper report section all fine except for Sebile lure, Gulp and Squidgies pics.
The rest appear fine in that thread. And all your images in the new breed spinning reels thread appear upside down.

Hello Maruthu,

Thank you for your feedback.

This one is for the technical department! I just cannot understand how, using the same procedure with my iPad, some images get transmitted straight and the others are upside down??

Can someone do an experiment with their iPad and advise, please?

Ok, I burnt the midnight oil to find out what the problem was and discovered that it is quite widespread.

When images are sent from an iPad to your PC, the latter misreads the information and tries to correct the image .... by posting it upside down!

I think the only answer to fix this problem is for the Moderators to buy all members new iPads.

What say you?

Kingfish, this is a issue with iPad. In order to speed up photo processing, iPad does not do orientation to photos. But instead it stores the orientation info in Exif.
Most of the softwares including Microsoft don't read this information form Exif and hence the problem. To solve the problem if you have to keep the Volume button which is used to take the shot
downside instead on upside. Or use can use Apps like Camera+ or other free software to solve the issue.

Hello Venkat,

I just go to my "camera" in my iPad and click the picture .... the volume button has nothing to do with it( mine is an iPad 2 updated).

Are you sure you are not trying to wriggle out of buying us all iPads ?!

Seriously though, it is a shame about this problem to occur just when I thought things were sailing along so smoothly. Will have to see which course to take.

Many thanks for your help,
Kingfish

Kingfish,

How about taking the pics upside down?
That should work for the time being I guess :-)

Hello Maruthu,

There is merit in what you say and if it works, then life will be easier.

It is past midnight now in Sydney, will try your idea tomorrow and see how it goes.

Ok, Maruthu.

The image below has been taken upside down by my iPad.

Let us see how it is received at your end?

Maruthu,

The Salt Away picture below was rotated by me on the iPad quite easily. Can you please tell me if it came right side up to you?

If so, then that is the easiest technique for all iPad users to transfer their images to the forum.

Thanks,
Kingfish

Just one more thing we could try.

Can you rotate the Salt Away pic (the same one you already rotated once) once again and try to post it

Not that I am looking for a solution here, but I'm just trying to understand what's going on :-)

@KingFish: I think you missed to read my other post. Ipad stores image orientation details in the Exif data of the image other than actually rotating the image, for speedy processing.
Other than Apple no one else is reading the info in exif to display the image. So if you rotate in ipad it only changes the exif data not the actual image. You need to use a third party software to actually rotate the image.

I guess I get it now.
So, I guess it doesn't matter how many times you rotate the image in i-pad, for a windows platform.

Kingfish,

So, I guess we can go ahead with a couple of ways.
If you are taking a pic for IA with your i-pad, you could take it upside down :-)
If any image comes up upside down on the forum, then one of us mods could edit them for ya :-)

Hello Venkat,

I did read your post but got mired in the technicalities.

I did an experiment and sent the upside down Salt Away picture ,that I had rotated in the iPad ,to my iMac PC.

Both being Apple products, the picture should have come the correct side up,as should have the pictures of the Squidgies posted earlier.

But that is NOT the case... the iMac is also receiving them upside down! One would expect that commonality between the iPad and iMac systems would not let this happen?!

At the end of this exercise , I sum up as follows:

1. I will take pictures with a digital camera when on a trip and then download these to my iPad.These come out correctly when transmitted on to the forum and there are no issues.

2. Any pictures of static objects, such as reels or lures, will be taken upside down on my iPad and these will correct themselves when submitted to the forum .

If the Moderators can correct the upside down pictures in my posts, as proposed by Maruthu, then I shall be very grateful .

Over and out,
Kingfish

Moderators

Just wondered if the "upside down images" have been corrected in my posts by you since last discussed?

Obviously, I won't be able to tell !

Thanks,
Kingfish

Kingfish,

Didn't change the images in this thread, so that people who read this thread understand that the Saltaway image is actually upside down. I would've already changed the images in the other thread, but haven't so far as they were just product images and not fishing report images. Will get to it sometime soon though :-)
