Hello everyone,

How many of you carry a rudimentary first aid kit when you go angling?
It would be nice to hear about it, even if it consists of some band aids or aspirin tablets!

I carry a reasonably comprehensive kit that fits into a flat mini tackle box(Plano type) which can
easily slip into a fishing vest or mini backpack. This is reassuring when you are fishing in locations
that are miles away from medical help or in a boat far out at sea.

Time permitting, I will either make a list of contents of my kit or take a picture and post it here.

Meanwhile, let us hear from you!

Kingfish,
Happy New year to you !
I got band aids in ever fishing, hunting backpacks. And pain killers in my car. I have a good pair of hook cutters always in my car, never had to use it, and I hope I don't have to ever !

Regards
Binu

Hello Binu,

Happy New Year!

You are well ahead of the game by carrying those items with you or in the car, minor cuts and grazes
are usually the most common injuries in outdoor activities.

My kit is a bit more comprehensive, as I have to go to locations where we are far away from medical help, such as fishing camps in the Australian outback or travelling for hours in and around remote headlands in a boat.

I have also fished in remote locations in India (Uttarkhand) for Mahseer and I was glad to have my
first aid kit with me. Let me illustrate.

On the first night staying in a tent in the jungle near Pancheshwar, my wife woke up to find herself bitten all over her legs with what we determined were bed bugs.

I immediately opened up my first aid kit and applied a soothing gel on the bites and followed that up
with some antihistamine tablets (Claratyne) which she took with some water.

The end result was that she was able to fish for the duration of the trip without any discomfort. I hate to think how miserable she would have been without suitable medication!

Regards,
Kingfish
