Post subject:  My first Mulley!!!

My first Mulley, caught about upstream of KRS near Mysore. I have heard of its existence and later local extinction of the Mulley in the upper reaches of Cauvery. So i am glad the fish is still around. The spoon is homemade as explained by Mr. Salim elsewhere on this site. The spoon works very well but my versions were a bit wobbly and also had a bad line twist. So I need to improve the balance of the spoon a get a better swivel. Does this fish look a bit different from those found in Hyderabad?

Dear Imran

Congratulations !

Please use a split ring of one quarter size to add svivle and spoon.

If you want to catch a big mulley then put a leader wire.

If you still have problem then please let me know i will send you few spoons.

Cheers

Hi Imran,

I could be wrong here but this fish looks more like a butter catfish.

Congratulations on the catch though :D

Let me tell you about my friend Mr. Iqbal. He is from Hyderabad & he is our master & guide. He is using this spoon from last 18-20 years.

He taught us about fishing with spoon.

This spoon came in many versions. The current one is as of the best.

One can try for any predatory fish using this spoon.

Cheers
Salim

Thanks all for your comments,
Last weekend i caught four more Mulleys of the same size and at the same spot.with the same spoon :)

.Amazingly not a single byte anywhere else on the river....Mulleys seem to be very choosy when it comes to habitat?? any idea?

Many thanks to Mr. Iqbal and Salim for the great tips on the spoon.

Imran

Hi,

You should put up another picture of this fish, because i too think this isn't a mulley, but rather something the Bengalis call the Pabda. Very tasty fish though.
