Absolutely No idea. Looks different than all the freshwater cats i have seen before.

Looks like a diet conscious version of the sea cats we get here.

In Kolkata we call the fish Tangra (heterobagrus bocourti)...pretty expensive and is good to eat. It does not grow that big at the most 1 kg. The ones that grows big are call Arr Tangra..

Cheers,

Chris

hi guys,

thanks for the info u all have provided.....well we have lot of these fish in pench dam nagpur and they do grow to the maxim size of 15 Kgs (according to the local people here).

i am feeling fortunate to hook this fish due to it's rarity and at the same time i am feeling unlucky that i was not having spinners which is a proper lure for hooking these guys.

regards
Manish

Yup, long whiskered catfish. Aair in Bangladesh (also guji aair. Ghagot in Sylhet) Great predator of the smaller barbs? Can grow in excess of 1 metre. Sperata aor for the scientifically minded. Quite common in our rivers. Sometimes stocked in ponds especially in Sylhet.

All the best
