I had taken a break from murrel fishing and was concentrating only on carps but as luck would have it the canal waters were high and muddy since the last 15 days. today morning as usual i went to the canal, saw the water and decided that it was useless to wet my line. After a brief consultation with my friends, i took them to a secluded part of the sabarmati river where i had seen a deep pool a few months back. the water condition looke good when we reached there. my friends started bait fishing while i did spinning with mepps aglia(copper) for mulley or whatever might fancy taking it and caught lots of carnatic carp.
On one of the casts i had a strong pull and the fish fought very well unlike any mulley or murrel. when i got it near for landing i was shocked to see a mahseer(or so i think) of about 6lbs. was i dreaming?? the fish gave a strong head shake and the treble ripped out of the lip. it got away. cursing my luck, i again cast the spinner and caught a similer looking fish much smaller in size. took a picture and need id (oh, please tell me its a mahseer ). i showed it to the local handliners and they said that they have seen 10 pounders being caught regularly upstream in faster water.
before leaving we decided to spin in one promising looking pool and was rewarded with a nice mulley on the very first cast. here are the pictures....
