Is the ugly stick not a broom stick? Will it even bend with 10 pound line??

You may get away with it if you can keep the Barra out of any snags that may be around. This is easier if you plan to fish out of a boat.

A softer rod that has more give than the Ugly Stik would have been my weapon of choice. Braid tends to break at a higher rating than stated, so you have a cushion there.

A size 3000 reel should be adequate as it will hold a large enough amount of 10 lb braid but it must
have a good, smooth drag.

It will be an interesting battle, so keep us posted.

Lots of luck,
Kingfish

I think you are actually pretty good in terms of the rod/reel.
However, I'd go with 20# braid on the 3000 size reel though.
In my opinion, I'd use the 3000 reel on a 6' rod and the 4000 size reel on a 7 to 7.5' rod.
If you are using the 4000 size reel, you could use about 100 yards of 30# braid.

My girld friend is taking up fishing and she is comfortable with a 6' rod.
So I was thinking about a Shimano Stradic 3000 loaded with 20# braid to pair with it.

Hope that helps!
