Hello Friends,
Went to GanGabal Lake: The Place is so serene and calm that after reaching there one would definitely fell in love for the Divinity Of the Place. Harmukh Peak has a history in itself, the unexplored mountain holding glacier at the top is visible only on few occasions. The weather is Highly unpredictable.
The journey started on 26th morning
Left Srinagar -6am
reached Gandarbal-7am(30kms)
Gandarbal- Naranag-7.30am(15kms).
Started our full day trekking from Naranag 8.30, Hired horses to carry consumables and camping material, Weather as usual was playing mischief as already said its unpredictable here(Though the forecast on net showed clear& sunny) after reaching Santhan Top, it started raining heavily, and there was no respite from Rain, Slip and heavy canals added to the trouble finally after making an ordinary water shedding area in woods we waited till the rains got calm,Our guide and Horse man took the lead with one of our friend and then me and my friend were left behind, made our way by inquiring to the shepherds nearby even climbed a mountain unnecessarily finally after a nerve wrecking day we reached The GangaBal Lake, our camp already setup by our friend, it was cold, we where shivering it was about 12'celcius, shocking to see that there where more than 50 international tourists and few from Jk state
Day 2 :Cloudy Started early trekked to the nearby mountain to get a closer glimpse of Harmukh peak, Belive me the edges are steep at 90'. After Inquiring about the peak i came to know its totally unexplored even Indian Army was unable to land on top with chopper to make its Camp, the mountain climbers also have failed due to unpredictable weather etc.. some even say their is a spritual power in the peak, but Its Simply Majestic,,,
I had bought 1day pass for fly fishing at Gangabal and upper wrangath stream though went for it in 5pm evening. Went a bit downstream and came upstream fishing , was lucky enough to land few rainbow trouts, though the size was small. it became dark early than expected wasn't even able to reach my baggage limit. but it was fun. The biggest one was more than 1lb. It was unfortunate that while fishing, on certain occassions i wasn't always able to hook the fish properly due to less roam on rocks, he flow of water is so intense that a slip can prove fatal, once missed upto 2lb rainbow that got away while i tried to rest her in Landing Net, enjoyed the night. the lake was Full of trout but coudnt land any with any of my techniques as the fishes were out in the middle was unable to reach there, i could clearly see fishes surface eating on top. Even saw the Biggest Snail i have ever seen >9cm, the habitat is reach and the fishes are in plenty
Day 3 : headed bACK TO SRINAGAR
Coudnt get enough pics as my camera got washed by the rains, though my phone proved handy....
.....Its a place worth a shot our trip was short but the people out there were camping for more than 4 days and there are other lakes too that are worth seeing..
rod & reel used is a wt 6-7
line -float-able 6 wt
flies- few winged wet flies, muddlers, coachmen, hackled wet fly.
