Hello guys, sharing my first Murrel with you all! I have been trying to hunt for one for over an year now, did crazy things and went various places!! but was not able to catch one!

And this one came when I was least expecting even a Tilapia or common Carp!

One of my friend called me up and asked if i could join him for a trip. My aim was to give him company, so I casually lifted my telescopic rod and tackle box and left with him.

It was already 6:30PM, with a dull light and some drizzles. Never looked like a time to hook a fish! After a quick assembly both of us casted nearby and I saw my float dippin n moving away slowly, casually struck, but felt no force later on..Pulled to chk the bait & was surprised to see a singhara hanging at the end!
The interest doubled with this first catch. At other end my friend faced some problem with his tackle. I took up his setup n made some changes and dressed up an earthworm on the barb and cast. Few seconds on
& I suddenly felt a pull! I missed that one as I was not ready, next instant, another big one!! I had not checked on the drag, it was loose, and suddenly the reel made a long screeching noise, the left handed setup, which I was not familiar too added more problems. I thought the krook went into the pat of submersible pump in the water,& it was now I kept drag to its max, and tried to reel it in, n it was when the snakehead took its first run!!! man, what the hell was that! next 5 minutes it were my adrenal glands who worked the most!! It was a very nice fight, took great runs and splashed twice out of water..!! I was thoroughly enjoying it!
Was very happy to see my first Murrel landed! Weighed around 3kg, I guess..

Now I was in a race to release it back, as the action attracted two locals, and I was not at all in a mood to hand them this Murrel ,coz I was 100% sure they were going to ask for the catch! And they did, but I was faster this time! Just replied to them saying that it carried eggs when I didnt even know if it was a male or female!!

Within few minutes we packed up and left for home with a feeling which I cannot express! Who could have imagined at the start of the day, that the ending would be so perfect!! Craving for more such days to come..! InshaAllah! :))

Congrats on the catch Salman. Sad that you have a good catch there and your face is missing The murrel looks good in size. It could nearly hit the 3 kg scale.

it was one heck of a day for us eh!

BTW i went fishing with Vipul yesterday to the same place
2 hrs later total tally for me was 4 cats and 1 unknown specie

Vipul bagged 2 big murrels (1.5~2kilos each) in the same time on a spinner

BTW. there is a superb store which sells earthworms. They are better than the ones which i get from my compost pit - slimy but more active and smelly. I guess it was the worms which caught these 5 and not me
