Greetings,

I was lucky to catch my first Murrel from Karnataka waters.
The water level was low which helped in this case.
Caught the fish on a scum frog. I lost another fish that was much heavier than the one in pic.

Maruthu, good job !! Those waters look like great murrel habitat. Now go get the big ones !!
I may do some top water fishing for Large mouth bass around lily pads.

Nice catch there good sir. Do the Snakeheads fight good? I've seen a bunch close to my place back in India and the last time I visited. Would like to chase them this time around.

I'm guessing based on

regular top water popper flies for bass should do the trick. Do they always stay on top of the water column or do they go deep when its hot outside?

Tight lines and cheers.....

No I have not fly fished for them. I use scum frogs around lily pads, brushes, logs etc in small ponds and lakes.

Thank you folks for the encouragement!

Gave it another try this past weekend with my new low profile baicaster reel.
Reel is a Shimano Chronarch 50E spooled with 30# power pro braided line
Rod is a 6' 6" Shimano teramar south east inshore casting rod rater for 8 - 14# line

It was raining and then it got hot and sunny. Landed three fish and lost a couple.

Overall a decent trip. Cheers!
Maruthu

Thanks Bobby!
When you visit Karnataka, we could target some Murrel if you'd like to....

Yes Venkat!
It is fun to try out new set up, let alone catch fish with it :-)

Maruthu,

Freshwater fishing helps to keep one in form until one can go back to the saltwater. Only problem is that it can become expensive with a whole new set of rods, reels, lines and lures!

Good luck in your new venture.

Will surely get in touch if I decide to come to Karnataka, may be you should challenge yourself now and try to get one with a Fly.

This November I am going to fish Carter Road with a Fly and see if I can hook-up, I caught a Barracuda there in March which was very surprising and interesting. I will be doing this almost daily when in Mumbai so I should get lucky, must only remember to carry my salty flies with me.

Kingfish,

I have a few light inshore setup that work really well for freshwater.
At least in terms of investment I am covered for freshwater fishing (other than a few lures and such) :-)

I tried fly fishing and felt like it was a pain in the burr for saltwater fishing (mainly with the wind). I loved fly fishing a creek (Ridley creek) after work during summer in Pennsylvania for small mouth bass. Since there was a lot of day light during the summer moths, I would come home from work and grab my 5wt flyrod and go fishing for small mouth bass.
