Hi,
New to this hobby.
Learning from this forum.
Presently located in Silchar, Assam.
Went to Barrak river thrice came back empty handed.
Baits I read in the forum and baits being used by the local
angler fisherman confuses me to no end.
Read somewhere that there is no fish swimming around which has not
been caught on cheese or earthworm but fishes of Barrak proved otherwise.
Yet I hope to catch some big fish someday. Big enough to entice me not to release it back :-)

Regards,

Neo

Thank sirjee. Tried my luck again today .
I feel I may be lacking some fish mantras , lol.
Wonder what's the psych of an angler during the act.
Why I seldom get a strike.
Uploading the pic of the act as I had no fish to show.
Though my trip wasn't unsuccessful as I enjoyed the scenery .

The place looks promising, try ground baiting the area. It should help. and also try a feeder rig if you can figure it out.

Hi Neodum, welcome buddy to IA. What type of bait or lure you used in the Barak river :?:

Try casting close to the trees.I see that you are casting very close to the bank (from the looks of the first rod in the picture).I would cast close to the trees if i can.Fishes hide under the shade of the trees and in depth.

Hi,
@ Omesh thanks for the suggestion .
I did make a rig, roughly trying to copy Mr Ali's design
but never taken it to the river.

@Pradeep, Tried many baits in Barak river
1 . putty maas
2. mirga fingerlings
3. chicken liver spiced up with garlic and asafotida liq (homeo)
4. prawn fermented for 3 hours with salt and garlic
5. chicken gut ...yuk
7. Chinese frog lure (rubber frog, hook and a spinner)
6. guwakhauri fish
Its a variety fish which the locals uses for buwal catfish.
Now hold your breath it cost 800 to 1200 rupees a kg.
I did get a pull yesterday with guwakhauri bait but it was just 2 times and then it went quite. bait was chewed a bit on the opposite side of the tip of the hook.

@Rocky,
Good guess. A fish was seen rolling all around and I was chasing and trying to present the fly. By the time I manage to cast at the spot the fish will break the surface some 25 mtr. the next moment it will again come near me. So this was continuing. Again casting limit is there I can't cast beyond 30 mtr max. Learning phase :D This was not in Barak river.

Hi Neo,
Don't loose your spirit of angling due to these unsuccessful trips. It happens to every anglers, no matter how experienced he is. Keep experimenting until you get success and stick with it for the spot/location.

Barkley Gulp big worms failed to attract any fish.Am surprised .

Good idea.
Here the locals say banana with rice is only for chitol fish.
By the way last week drove all the way to koshiara river in karimganj.
Surprise for me . The locals told us they have not had any strike for
the last 30 to 40 days. Tried my luck but it was only bivalve( oyester)
pulling the fish lure. Dead stinking guwakhaori fish as bait.
Am so desperate ,just want to. feel the big fish near breaking my line ,rod,
and reel. Then I will take sanyas.
Good news is that recently hooked two small lariya fish in Barack river.
They were too small I literally threw them back in the river. Not worth for
ceremonious release.
I have a hunch soon I may be selling all the 4 rods and 3reels and these
funny Chinese lures

Hi Neo,
As i told earlier don't loose your spirit of angling due to unsuccessful trips. From last April to November i had near about 20 fishing trips and some of them produced no fish. Now i am analyzing every past trip and trying to find out reasons of success or failure. Accordingly i am preparing myself for the next season (baits, tackles, tactics, locations, fishing period for each location, etc). When you will analyze your fishing trips, you will find so many factors are related with success. In a spot if you are not getting any fish then try to get information how others are getting fish from there. It will help you a lot for your next trip. When you are dishearten by unsuccessful trips, try to get permission for angling in private ponds. As there is no angling pressure and fishes are not so clever, you surely will able to hook some. It will boast up your angling spirit.

Congratulation Neo for the catch. I can feel the excitement you have while catching this fish. Try to stay calm while playing with hooked fish and during unhooking after landed it. I have lost a good sized rohu after being hooked as I was too much exited. All the best for your coming trips.

Hi Neo,

If there are bites but no hook-up, try a smaller hook or maybe a different type of hook.

Hi.
I am an angling enthusiat. Actually from alleppy, kerala, and therefore fishing with normal rod n hook set up always amused me. Been angling with rod and reel for some time in general over weekends. Found this forum to be a goldmine of information. Presently working in mumbai. After reading the posts, just feel like heading to nearest waters and cast!

Welcome Neo, and really pleased to see you got your fish!
We all get these periods to go through, hopefully when we emerge at the other end (with a fish caught) we are better men and anglers!
When I can look back on these testing episodes (from a safe distance) they've often been useful learning experiences.
All the best

Post subject:  Re: Introduction

Dear Umakanta,
After heavy rain when water becomes muddy its not ideal condition for angling. Rain water brings lots of natural foods for fishes, so chances of catching them with rod and reel reduces. In muddy water attractants can not spread properly. Wait till water becomes clear.

Post subject:  Hello Neo..

Is it possible to be in the tree side bank? if possible try there, try to locate a spot with water plants/ a curve where water flow is less and water is accumulating ... first use strong small hooks.. use local Pond's/lakes prawn as a bait..remove its outer cover and put it on hook. you'll get something atleast .. and if lucky you'll get a good one.. always use strong hooks and line.. coz in river nobody knows what is gonna take the bait.
