Post subject:  Some fish from Chennai

Been fishing around Chennai, but fishing was tough. But I did get to meet and become friends with a few IA members.
Here are some fish that I landed in the last few months.
Missed a few good ones too, some at the strike and some after some fight, but hey that's fishing. The fish has to win sometimes too.
The ladyfish below was about 7 kg. It put a good fight, and I thought it was a GT. That's Vijay holding the fish in the second pic.

I was aiming for some long casts, but this barracuda hit a popper about 20 feet from the surf.

The GT weighed 12.5 kilos, the fish put a good fight for about 20 minutes. I wished there was someone at the beach to take a picture of me holding the fish.

Hello Binu,

Some nice and varied catches there.

Could not help but notice that the spinning reel has been laid down on the sand, which normally is a big no no as the sand will get into the innards of the reel and cause damage.

However, is that reel a Van Staal? In which case I presume a quick dunk in the water should take are of the sand.

Regards,
Kingfish

Thanks Kingfish. Yes, those are the Van Staals, as you said a simple dunk in the surf and I get back to fishing.
But I wash all my reels in freshwater, and wipe them dry after every trip and they've never failed.

Regards,
Binu

nice catch, and yes those are the submarines of spinning reels, you have got some big giants on your shore, so i guess super spinners is a must for you.
between what lure or technique you used for the lady fish ? we have got these kind of bonefish roaming in the mangroves here. [smilie=coolup.gif]

From what I have heard for ladyfish you should use small 4 inch or of similar size minnow type lures or small spoons.
I caught this on a 5" yo zuri mag darter.

I have 3 rods that I normally use from the surf.
A 9' G-Loomis IMX Surf 1084-2S
10' Lamiglas Ron Arra XSRA 1205-2
11' Century Stealth rated 1-4 oz.

I caught the GT on the G-Loomis rod.
