Catching a fish from a open sand beach with lure is every surfcasters dream. I am no different and I have always aspired to do so.
But in reality I have tried only 2 times earlier in very light vein with no results. So far I am comfortable fishing from jetties and rocky terrains.
The good chances of catching fish from a jetty/rocky terrain within the limited holiday period has prevented me from doing fishing on a open beach.
For quite sometime I am engulfed with the idea of fishing from a open beach and I am in the process of selecting a proper surf rod.
To gather some more info I wanted to visit few of the spots I have identified during previous scouting.
Last weekend I went to my native and tried a spot with my current setup to get a general idea.
I was into my 10th cast or so I got a strike and landed this GT after a very brief fight.
This is my first fish from a open beach and the smile tells it all...

Nice Venkatesh. The water looks amazing.
That would also probably be the smallest GT you've ever caught ;) just kidding.

The first fish I caught is also of the same size. I will never forget these 2 fishes.
Having non polluted water near to home is a great boon.

Congrats to the first of many Venkat!

Glad you are getting into pure surf fishing which is also my most favourite form of fishing.
A fish caught from the beach is way better than any kind of saltwater fishing in my opinion.

You can say that you'll never forget about fish that you already caught, but the ones to haunt your memory for the rest of your life are some of those special ones that got away ....

Congrats on your first open beach fish. As Maruthu said it is truly a challenging one and the most interesting style to fish. I travel 120Km round a trip to just catch a glimpse of a fish activity in one of our best productive place in our area. Hope to hook one soon.

Thanks Ezekial. From now on I will do more of pure surf fishing.
By the year end I will get a proper light surf setup and continue to do more as I like to do.
For me the round trip will be 1400KM :(
I wish you to catch one soon.

During the last weekend amidst the rain, I was able to land few more GT from the open beach. Unfortunately my mobile lost the charge and could not click pictures of a couple of GTs.
Here is the pic of one of the GT.

Nice Venkatesh. Smaller Gt's also put a good fight for their size.
