In an exchange on another topic the subject of older books on Indian Angling came up and a list proved to be of interest to a number of members. I've uped the list slightly but thought it may be of use to a wider group - and that it probably deserved a Topic of its own?
HS Thomas The Rod in India. Probably the best single book to search out. Available through various reprints (eg Natraj of Dehra Dun) and as a free download.
HS Thomas Tank Angling in India. I've also come across reprints of this.
A. St Macdonald Circumventing the Mahseer (1948 BHNS) A recent reprint available from Gyan books.
Skene Dhu The Mighty Mahseer (1903) There are reprints of this.
Skene Dhu The Angler in Northern India. (1910)
Skene Dhu The Angler in India. A slightly later edition, combining parts of the two earlier works mentioned above, but with additions. Another Natraj reprint.
Pardesi Wet Fly Fishing in kashmir (1930)
J. Masters The Compleat Indian Angler (1938) Another Natraj reprint on this
CWW Conway Sunlit Waters (1942) Another Natraj reprint
GH Lacey North Punjab Fishing Club Handbook (I've only found an ebook on this but it was free)
W Walker Angling in the Kumaon Lakes (1888) Another free ebook of this
Alban Wilson Trout Fishing in Kashmir (1920) I've yet to locate a copy of this.
For information 'Skene Dhu' is Cecil Lang
I've no contact with any of the publishers! Due to the age of a few of these books, quite a few are out of copyright, so ebooks are out there. I generally go on google and search with combinations of authors name and key words from title. Most are free.
Best of luck!
Druridge
PS Does anyone have anything I've missed?
