Decided to put on a Sebile Flatt Shad lure and troll the river in Goa recently.

This is a vibe (vibrating metal) lure in the Firetiger pattern and was picked up on a sale for less than $5 Aussie. Although it is a cast and retrieve lure, it can be trolled quite effectively and at any depth.

The grouper caught below attests to that.

Will try to get a better picture of the fish and lure, if possible.

It was quite difficult to photograph as it was squirming a lot and I did not fancy getting near those sharp Sebile hooks at this stage.

The grouper has hit the front treble hooks, rather than the tail hook. Presumably, it attacked the lure from below and out of its rocky lair ...... rather than chase it from the rear.

Interestingly, it disgorged a bushel full of small baitfish that were hardly an inch long, some of the bait had an uncanny resemblance to Barramundi fish fry. However, we did not catch any barra this trip.

Thanks, Vijay.

The grouper was sent back to the river safely but the look on the face of the guide was priceless when it was released!

By the way, has the beach and river now been finally cleared of the garbage where we fished in Chennai?

Nice grouper there Kingfish!
It is always exciting to try new lures out, let alone catch anything with it.

Me and my friends managed to catch some MJs during New year's eve on the west coast. I wish I took more pictures, but sometimes it is easier to just turn on the GoPro and keep fishing specially while practicing catch and release for the most part. Here's a little video I made and I hope you like it....

Cheers!

Hello Maruthu,

Nice video with no profanity and lots of action.

Congratulations on your forthcoming marriage ..... who is the lucky girl? I am sure she will be an angling asset for you.

Regards,
Kingfish
